Google Play Store Now Allows Download of Multiple Apps at Once

Google has been working on enabling simultaneous downloads of multiple apps on the Play Store for quite some time. It appears that this feature is now widely available and rolling out. Here’s a look at how it works and what you need to know.

One of the longstanding complaints from Android users has been the Play Store’s lack of support for downloading multiple apps simultaneously, which could save a significant amount of time. Google listened to this feedback and began developing a feature to address it. However, it seems that this feature was not a high priority for Google, as it took five years to implement it.

We tested the feature on both a Pixel 6 and a OnePlus 12R. Our findings reveal that the feature currently only allows for the simultaneous download of two apps. Attempting to download more than two apps will result in the last app being placed in a pending state. In such cases, the new app will begin downloading once one of the first two apps has finished installing.

After five years of development, one would expect Google to have implemented the feature for updating apps as well. However, currently, the feature only applies to new app installations and downloads, allowing for a maximum of two apps to be processed simultaneously. As a result, you cannot set multiple apps for updates simultaneously, unlike with new app downloads.

We hope that the current limitations are part of Google’s initial testing phase and that they will fully roll out the feature to include app updates, as well as increase the limit for app downloads.

The Google Play Store has seen significant improvements over the years, and we are eager for Google to add the previously “leaked in testing” feature, which enables users to remotely uninstall apps from other Android devices linked to the same Google account.

What do you think about the multiple downloads feature? Are there any other features you believe Google should introduce to the Play Store next? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
