After extensive discussions, Apple revealed its plans to introduce RCS messaging support for iPhones in late 2023. Although no specific date was given, Apple indicated that RCS would be available on iPhones “later next year,” by the end of 2024. Now, Google has confirmed the timeline for the release of RCS on iOS via its updated Google Messages webpage.

The Google Messages webpage showcases the app’s features and RCS capabilities, emphasizing its upcoming availability on iOS. The description notes, “Apple has confirmed its adoption of RCS in the fall of 2024. This transition promises an enhanced messaging experience for all users.”
This implies that RCS integration will likely arrive on iPhones with the forthcoming iOS 18 update, typically announced by Apple in the fall alongside major device updates. However, the rollout might occur earlier through beta versions of the iOS update.
I’m confident that Apple will heavily promote it. RCS Universal Profile enhances the chatting experience with intriguing features and introduces a layer of privacy absent in standard SMS.
Other features highlighted on the webpage, such as Emoji Reactions, Photomoji, and Voice Moods, will remain exclusive to the Google Messages app. This will facilitate communication for iPhone users with friends outside of Apple’s ecosystem.
Apple has clarified that RCS integration will not resolve the blue bubble-green bubble issue, as RCS messages will still appear as green chats. Nonetheless, it represents a positive step forward. Google appears enthusiastic about this development, evident from its vigorous promotion of RCS and its messaging app.
