Game Developers are Already Creating Games for Nintendo Switch 2: GDC Survey

Results from a recent survey conducted by the Game Developer Conference (GDC) 2024 have provided noteworthy insights into the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 handheld gaming console. Although the GDC 2024 conference is scheduled for March, the survey outcomes have already been disclosed.

Engaging with over 3000 game developers, GDC sought insights into various aspects of the industry. A pivotal question asked was, “Which platform(s) are you developing your current project for?” The results showcased the sustained supremacy of PC gaming in the landscape of new video game development. Subsequent to PC, references were made to the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Android/iOS platforms.

Approximately 18% of developers are reportedly engaged in creating new games for the Nintendo Switch, with an additional 8% dedicated to developing titles for the rumored Nintendo Switch successor or Nintendo Switch 2. Despite leaks hinting at enhancements like processor upgrades, improved controllers, and better screen quality

The development of games for the unannounced Nintendo Switch 2 remains a confidential matter. It’s worth noting that the actual number of developers involved in Nintendo Switch 2 projects could be higher, given the anonymous nature of the survey. One of the intriguing questions posed in the GDC Survey was, “Which platform(s) currently hold the most interest for you as a developer?”

Once again, PC gaming emerged as the top choice, followed by Sony’s PS5 gaming console in the second position, according to the GDC survey. Interestingly, 32% of developers expressed their keen interest in creating games for the anticipated Nintendo Switch successor, which is presumed to be the Nintendo Switch 2.

The persistent mention of the Nintendo Switch 2 in the survey findings suggests exciting developments in its game development. Anticipation is building around the handheld gaming console, with expectations that it will redefine the landscape of portable gaming.
