Samsung’s Wear OS Galaxy Watches have gained recognition for providing a quality Wear OS experience. With the upcoming launch of the Galaxy Watch 7 series, Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Watch FE. This budget-friendly smartwatch is the first “FE” (Fan Edition) device in the Galaxy Watch series. Here is all the information you need to know.
Galaxy Watch FE: Specifications
The Galaxy Watch FE resembles a rebranded Galaxy Watch 4, featuring a 40mm size and a 1.2-inch Super AMOLED display with 396 x 396 pixels resolution. It comes in aluminum casing and four color options — Black, Gold, Silver, and Pink.
Powered by the Exynos W920, the same SoC as the Galaxy Watch 4, it offers 1.5GB RAM and 16GB storage, with a 247mAh battery supporting WPC charging, excluding Qi charging. The dimensions measure 39.4 x 40.4 x 9.8 mm, similar to its predecessor.
Notably, the Galaxy Watch FE includes Sapphire Crystal glass on the front, a feature absent in the Galaxy Watch 4. It maintains an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, akin to the Watch 4.
Connectivity features LTE, Bluetooth 5.3, 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, and NFC. Out of the box, the watch operates on Wear OS-based One UI 5 Watch.
Furthermore, the Watch FE is equipped with Samsung’s BioActive Sensor for tracking Optical Heart Rate, Electrical Heart, and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis. It also features sensors like Accelerometer, Barometer, Gyro, Geomagnetic, and Light sensors.
Availability and Pricing
The Bluetooth-only variant of the Galaxy Watch FE will be released at $199 (INR 16,630 approx.) on June 24. The LTE model is priced at $249.99 (INR 20,890 approx.) and is expected to launch later this year, possibly in October.
Samsung is clearly targeting the budget-conscious consumers with this offering. It will be interesting to observe how this impacts the budget Wear OS market, an area currently lacking strong contenders. With several smartwatches set to debut in the coming months, such as the Galaxy Watch 7 series and the Pixel Watch 3 and 3 XL, the Wear OS smartwatch market is poised for significant activity.
