The Dimensity 8400 has been a go-to chipset for many mid-range smartphones, so it’s not surprising that MediaTek is already preparing its successor, the Dimensity 8500, expected to debut later this year. While the company hasn’t officially confirmed the chip yet, a recent leak has revealed key details about its CPU configuration.
Dimensity 8500 to Feature Higher Clock Speeds on Cortex-A725 Cores
According to tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS), the upcoming Dimensity 8500 will be built on TSMC’s 4nm node and will house an octa-core setup consisting entirely of ARM Cortex-A725 cores—the same architecture found in the Dimensity 8400.
The major upgrade lies in the clock speed. Unlike the 8400’s 3.25GHz peak frequency, the Dimensity 8500 reportedly pushes speeds up to 3.4GHz. Although the increase may seem minor on paper, such a boost can translate to noticeably faster performance in real-world usage.

The Dimensity 8500 is reportedly showing a massive jump in benchmark results as well. Early testing suggests the chipset can score around 2.2 million on AnTuTu, which is a major leap from the Dimensity 8400’s roughly 1.6 million score.
The GPU is also getting an upgrade. The Dimensity 8500 is said to feature a Mali-G720 GPU clocked at up to 1.5GHz, compared to last year’s 1.3GHz limit, aligning with earlier leaks shared by DCS about the chip’s graphical performance.

Beyond CPU and GPU enhancements, the chipset is expected to come with improved imaging and AI hardware as well. The Imagiq 1080 ISP and MediaTek NPU 880 are also tipped to receive performance boosts, adding to the overall efficiency and processing power of the new SoC.
According to DCS, the Honor Power 2, which is rumored to pack a massive 10,000mAh battery, might be the first device powered by the Dimensity 8500. The phone is expected to debut in the first half of 2026, suggesting that MediaTek could announce the chip toward the end of 2025, likely around December. Additionally, tipster @saaanjjjuuu on X has hinted that the Poco X8 Pro may also adopt this new processor.
Since none of this information has been officially confirmed, it’s best to treat these details as speculation for now. More concrete updates should surface as we get closer to launch timelines. Until then, keep an eye out for further developments surrounding the Dimensity 8500.
