After much anticipation and teasing, Nothing’s CMF Phone (1) has finally received an official release date. The sub-brand has set July 8 as the launch date, slated for next month. Reports suggest it will debut as a more affordable alternative to the budget-centric Nothing Phone 2a (review).
CMF, true to form, sent us a mini capsule reminiscent of the Nothing Ear (stick), containing a piece of paper with the Phone (1)’s release date in the brand’s signature orange lettering.
Furthermore, CMF included a special treat for us in the capsule: the CMF Phone 1’s SIM ejector tool, which cleverly doubles as a mini screwdriver with a flathead—a delightful mystery, though not for tech enthusiasts like us.
Judging by its appearance, this screwdriver seems designed for dismantling the bolt on the smartphone’s rear panel, which the brand had recently hinted at. Does the back panel detach?
We’ve already caught glimpses of the phone’s design thanks to teasers from the brand throughout the month. However, rumors and reports have also given us insights into what we can expect from the device in terms of specifications and pricing upon its release.
The CMF Phone 1 is anticipated to feature a 6.67-inch OLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. For its cameras, it is likely to come equipped with a dual rear camera setup led by a 50MP sensor. On the front, a 16MP selfie camera is expected.
Internally, the CMF Phone 1 is rumored to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chipset, similar to the ‘Pro’ variant found in the Phone 2a. It is also expected to pack a 5000mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging.
The CMF Phone 1 will launch with NothingOS 2.5 based on Android 14 right out of the box. It’s anticipated to offer up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage.
Although pricing details are scarce, as it’s positioned as a streamlined version of the Phone 2a, it’s expected to be priced around Rs 20,000 in India. The phone will reportedly be available in Black, Blue, and Green color options, with the Indian market receiving a special Orange variant as well.
