At the “Glowtime” event on September 9, Apple introduced the Watch Series 10, marking the latest addition to its line of watchOS devices. The new watch brings several exciting updates and enhancements over the Series 9.
The most significant change is the introduction of larger displays. The Apple Watch Series 10 features screens that are 30% larger, available in approximately 45mm and 49mm Wide-Angle OLED sizes, up from the 41mm and 49mm sizes of its predecessor. This brings the larger variant close in size to Apple’s Watch Ultra models. Additionally, the new displays are 40% brighter than those of last year’s models.
Despite the larger displays, the overall design of the Apple Watch Series 10 remains largely unchanged. To maintain a similar form factor, Apple has slimmed down the thickness without altering other design elements. The Series 10 is 10% thinner than its predecessor, now measuring just 9.6mm in thickness. Apple has introduced two new watch faces Reflections and Regatta to highlight the expanded screen size.
Additionally, the Watch Series 10 is powered by the new Apple S10 SoC, which includes a 4-core Neural Engine. This upgrade enhances voice capture for calls and live translation. Internally, Apple has also upgraded the speaker unit for better audio playback, allowing you to listen to music directly on the watch without needing AirPods or external speakers.
The Series 10 runs on watchOS 11 and introduces a few exclusive features. Notably, it includes Sleep Apnea Detection, which monitors users’ breathing patterns during sleep and uses blood oxygen saturation to determine if a consultation with a physician is needed.
The Series 10 offers 18 hours of battery life and features a new, larger charging coil that supports fast charging. You can charge the watch from 0-80% in just 30 minutes. The display is safeguarded by Onyx glass, and the watch features a metal back panel for enhanced connectivity. Additionally, there is now a titanium model that replaces the previous stainless steel options.
The Watch Series 10 also includes a depth sensor designed for high-speed water activities such as snorkeling and surfing. It retains existing features like Temperature Sensing, Fall Detection, Crash Detection, and Emergency SOS.
The starting price for the base GPS-only model of the Watch Series 10 will be $399. It will be available in Gold, Natural, and Slate Gray color options, and can be purchased starting September 20.
