Apple has launched the visionOS 1.0.3 update for Vision Pro, the latest software update following the headset’s release on February 2nd. Prior to the official debut of Apple’s mixed-reality headset in stores, visionOS 1.0.1 and visionOS 1.0.2 were released, introducing various bug fixes and enhancements. Vision Pro initially shipped with visionOS 1.0.2 as its inaugural software update. visionOS 1.0 and visionOS 1.0.1 updates were substituted prior to the headset’s official launch.
Less than a fortnight has passed since Apple unveiled its premium mixed-reality headset. Following its launch, numerous reviewers and users highlighted a slight inconvenience: the inability for users to independently reset Vision Pro if they forget their password. However, Apple promptly responded to this feedback and rolled out the visionOS 1.0.3 update on February 12th, swiftly addressing the issue.
This update delivers crucial bug fixes and introduces a feature allowing users to reset their device if they have forgotten their passcode.” – Apple Release Notes
With the introduction of visionOS 1.0.3, Apple incorporates a feature allowing users to erase data from the Vision Pro and reset the headset themselves in the event of a forgotten passcode. This update also addresses unspecified bugs. Previously, resetting the headset required a visit to an Apple Store or shipping it to Apple Support, both of which could be inconvenient for users, particularly if no store was nearby.
Fortunately, that’s a thing of the past now. Thanks to the visionOS 1.0.3 update, if a passcode is entered incorrectly a certain number of times, users will now have the option to erase the Vision Pro. Users can easily install the latest visionOS version by navigating to the Settings app -> Software Update section.
It’s important to note that erasing the Vision Pro will not remove the Activation Lock. Therefore, even if the headset is stolen and the thief attempts to use this feature to wipe it, they would still be unable to log in with another Apple ID.
Apple is currently in the testing phase for the initial significant update, visionOS 1.1, designed for Apple Vision Pro. Presently, visionOS 1.1 is undergoing developer beta testing. Once released, this update will introduce support for mobile device management, enabling the use of email, calendars, and contacts within enterprise settings.
