Apple Introduces Guest and Travel Modes on Pro

In a recent announcement, Apple introduced exciting entertainment features for its upcoming Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset. The Cupertino tech giant also emphasized two notable features, Guest mode and Travel Mode, aimed at enhancing user experience and privacy.

Vision Pro Guest Mode

The Guest User mode enables Vision Pro owners to share their headset with family and friends while retaining control over sensitive information. Apple hasn’t provided extensive details about the feature, but it seems to bypass the Optic ID requirement, allowing access without scanning the user’s iris.

Apple highlights that this mode restricts access to specific apps like Photos and Safari, safeguarding the primary user’s crucial data, including Apple ID account settings, passcodes, and health information. However, Apple mentions that guest users may access “certain app content, such as large photo attachments, in Messages” while the Settings app is open.

Originally discovered by 9to5Mac in the visionOS simulator within Apple’s app development tool Xcode, the Guest User mode in Vision Pro also incorporates an automatic shutdown feature if the headset is not worn within five minutes.

Vision Pro Travel Mode

The Travel Mode is designed to stabilize visuals for users wearing the Vision Pro on airplanes or other less bumpy vehicles. Apple, however, emphasizes a crucial safety point, warning against using the Vision Pro while operating a moving vehicle.

Pre-orders for the Vision Pro are scheduled to commence this Friday in the United States at 5 a.m. Pacific Time, with the launch date set for February 2.
