For those eyeing a new pair of AirPods, the recent update from analyst Jeff Pu brings promising tidings. Pu suggests that Apple is gearing up to refresh its AirPods lineup, potentially introducing AirPods Lite starting at $99. This insight, shared via 9to5Mac in an investor note, indicates that AirPods Lite might hit the shelves as early as later this year.
Currently, Apple’s AirPods lineup comprises five offerings: the 2nd generation AirPods, the 3rd generation AirPods (featuring MagSafe and Lightning charging cases), the 2nd generation AirPods Pro, and the AirPods Max. Among these, the 2nd generation AirPods, priced at $129, stand as the most economical option.
Analysts such as Mark Gurman and Ming-Chi Kuo foresee a significant overhaul of the AirPods lineup in 2024. While Jeff Pu hasn’t divulged specifics about the features of the forthcoming budget AirPods, he anticipates a surge in production for this low-cost model.
Pu highlights that Apple is facing subdued demand for its existing AirPods models, with an anticipated 4% year-on-year decrease in volume, expecting to ship 55 million units in 2024.
In February 2024, Kuo mentioned Apple’s plans to commence mass production of the HomePod mini 2, AirPods Max 2, and a budget-friendly version of AirPods.
In recent updates, Mark Gurman revealed that Apple is set to release two new models of AirPods 4 this year. Among them, the higher-priced variant will include features like active noise cancellation.
Although it’s unclear whether Kuo, Gurman, and Pu are all discussing the same budget AirPods models, it seems logical for Apple to introduce a more affordable option to attract newcomers to the Apple ecosystem.
Additionally, an update for AirPods Max is on the horizon, suggesting that Apple may announce multiple new AirPods models in the near future.
