Google has introduced Gemini to Android devices and its services, but the company’s ambitions for Gemini’s integration go much further. Android Auto appears to be the next platform set to receive this innovative feature.
Android Auto is about to experience something new and exciting ‘Gemini Live’. As part of the Gemini Advanced subscription, this feature could soon take over from Google Assistant in your car. The latest beta version of the Android Auto app even hints that this change is just around the corner. So, get ready for a fresh, more intuitive driving experience with Gemini!
In the recent Android Auto Beta v12.8.143544, the team at Android Authority‘s Assemble Debug noticed a new monochrome Gemini icon. This discovery hints that early Gemini support might already be integrated into Android Auto, sparking excitement for what’s to come.
They also stumbled upon a string labeled “gearhead_assistant_action_Kitt_live_query” with the value “Start Conversation.” The terms “Live” and “Conversation” hint that we might be dealing with a Gemini Live integration. Adding to the intrigue, AssembleDebug discovered a GeminiLiveAssistantAction function within the app, which strongly supports this theory.
With Gemini now part of Android Auto Beta, it’s got us wondering: could Google be planning to swap out Google Assistant, which we’ve found to be fantastic, for Gemini? Currently, Gemini Live comes with the Gemini Advanced subscription, so it’s still a bit of a mystery whether Google will replace Assistant with Gemini Live at no extra cost or if only the basic Gemini features will be included. What do you think?
