Android 15 Beta 2 Now Released: Here’s What’s New

Google did not discuss the upcoming version of Android as many anticipated, as Gemini took the spotlight. However, the second Beta for Android 15 is finally here, and unlike previous builds, it introduces numerous changes both in the UI and under the hood. This brings the next release of Android closer to a stable version. Let’s delve into everything new in Android 15 Beta 2.

Private Space

The rumored Private Space has finally debuted in this Beta. It functions similarly to a hidden or private apps folder found in other Android skins. It creates a separate user profile where you can hide sensitive apps that you don’t want others to access.

It establishes a distinct profile on your device that becomes inactive when your phone is locked. In Android 15, the app launcher will show apps added to the Private Space in a separate section. These apps will be concealed from the recent apps list, notification tray, and the settings app as long as the profile remains locked.

Satellite Connectivity Support

Further improvements in Satellite connectivity support on Android are evident through the addition of UI elements. SMS and MMS apps can now utilize satellite connectivity for sending and receiving messages. Google Messages may also integrate this feature.

Additionally, other apps on your phone will be more cognizant of why full network services are currently unavailable.

Split Screen App Pairs

In Android 15, you now have the ability to create app pairs. This feature allows you to create a shortcut for a pair of two apps that you had opened in split-screen view. You can save this pair from the Recent Apps screen and add it to the home screen for quick access.

Vibration Effects for Notification Channels

To enhance notification functionality in Android, Google has introduced rich vibration for notification channels. This allows you to customize vibration styles for incoming notifications from the same app.

For example, you can set a distinct vibration pattern for incoming messages and a different one for likes or replies to your comments. This feature makes it easier to differentiate between notifications using haptics.

Rich Widget Previews

Widgets in Android 15 receive a personal touch with the addition of support for generated previews. This allows for remote-view access to the Widget page, enabling the preview to update and show how it will actually appear on your home screen.

Instead of using a placeholder image or a contact card, widgets in Android 15 will display an image of one of your favorite contacts or a photo from your gallery.

When you select the Partial Access option in media permissions, apps will now highlight the most recently or last selected photos, videos, and other media. This new feature aims to enhance the overall user experience for apps that frequently request media access on your device.

Android 15 also focuses on refining existing features, such as Picture-in-Picture mode. While this feature has been available since Android 8 Oreo, you will now experience a smoother animation when entering PiP mode.

These are some of the key changes and additions that come with Android 15 Beta 2. Additionally, there have been numerous under-the-hood improvements. What are your views on these new features? Are you excited about Android 15? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
