Android enthusiasts anticipating a new Android Beta release today will need to wait one more day. At Google’s I/O 2024 event, it was confirmed that Android 15 Beta 2 will be released tomorrow.
For those unfamiliar, testing for Android 15 commenced in February with the first two Developer Previews, followed by the first Beta in April. Google subsequently issued a hotfix update to address several bugs.
Thus far, we are aware of Android 15’s internal code name and have explored numerous potential new features expected to debut tomorrow, along with a wishlist of features we hope to see.
In terms of compatibility, Pixel 6 and newer devices are likely to receive the Beta updates first, followed by a stable update around August or October, possibly coinciding with the Pixel 9 launch. Manufacturers such as OnePlus, Nothing, and OPPO have already begun testing Android 15 on their latest devices, and it is anticipated that other major manufacturers will soon follow suit.
Today’s Google I/O 2024 event did not include announcements regarding Android, Wear OS, Pixel 8a, or ChromeOS. Instead, the focus was primarily on Generative AI-related developments, such as Project Astra, Gemini 1.5 Pro, Flash, and upcoming features for Google Workspace and apps later this year.
