One of the highly anticipated features in Windows 11 24H2 is the AI Explorer, designed to comprehensively record and index all activities on your PC, including files, documents, and interactions, creating a searchable memory. With natural language prompts, users can easily retrieve key information stored on their PC. Recent reports from an X user (Albacore/@thebookisclosed) suggest that this feature will likely be limited to ARM PCs.
The Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26100, considered the final RTM (Release to Manufacturing) build destined for OEMs, contains code snippets detailing the prerequisites for the AI Explorer feature. To utilize AI Explorer, the PC must be equipped with an ARM64 CPU, have at least 16GB of RAM, possess 225GB or more of total storage, and include the Snapdragon X Elite NPU (QCOM0D0A).
This implies that future Windows laptops equipped with the Snapdragon X Elite SoC will exclusively offer the AI Explorer feature. PCs utilizing Intel and AMD processors will not have access to this highly anticipated functionality. The Snapdragon X Elite boasts a powerful NPU capable of performing 75 trillion operations per second (TOPS).
In comparison, Intel’s and AMD’s NPUs fall short in performance, with Intel delivering up to 34 TOPS and 38 TOPS. For an optimal AI PC experience, opting for a Snapdragon X Elite-powered PC may be the ideal choice. Fortunately, leaks suggest that Snapdragon X Elite-powered laptops will come with a minimum of 16GB of RAM, which is excellent news.
Recently, a sneak peek of the first Snapdragon X Elite laptop emerged from Lenovo. The company is gearing up to launch the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 (2024) and Lenovo ThinkPad T14s featuring the Qualcomm chipset by mid-2024. Additionally, Samsung is preparing to unveil its Galaxy Book4 Edge, also equipped with the Snapdragon X Elite chipset.
Moreover, Microsoft has scheduled an event on May 20, during which the company will introduce new Surface laptops powered by the Snapdragon X Elite chipset. This event is expected to bring announcements regarding Windows 11 24H2, new AI experiences such as AI Explorer, and, of course, new Surface devices.
