After Intel NUC’s Death, ASUS Embarks on Continued Development!

The Intel NUC lineup of personal computers has officially come to an end following the acquisition of the NUC division by Asus in October 2023. Asus, now the owner of the division, has plans to expand its product portfolio with the mini PCs, to be sold under the New Unit of Computing (NUC) branding.

An Asus spokesperson recently clarified to Fudzilla.com that “the company won’t have an update to the NUC Extreme 7.5 liter device.” This announcement signifies the conclusion of Intel-based NUCs. The last model produced by Intel, the NUC 13 Extreme Kit, featured a Core i9-13900K Raptor Lake 13th Gen processor.

Despite the end of Intel’s NUCs, the mini PC era is far from over. Asus not only intends to continue developing small form factor PCs but has also revealed a new ROG NUC, targeting on-the-go gamers. Following CES 2024, Asus has unveiled its latest developments in the mini PC domain.

After Intel NUC’s Demise, Asus Reveals Complete Lineup at CES 2024

The latest ROG NUC features Intel’s newest Core Ultra processors (up to Core Ultra 9 185H) paired with Nvidia’s RTX 40 Series discrete GPUs. Despite its compact size, a mini ITX personal computer with an RTX 4070 would undoubtedly be considerably larger, even with an emphasis on portability.

The ROG NUC has a volume of 2.5 liters, showcasing an impressive and super-slim form factor weighing only 800 grams. Unlike a laptop, it lacks a built-in battery, functioning essentially as a mini gaming desktop.

In addition to the ROG NUC, Asus has introduced two other PCs at CES 2024: the NUC 14 Pro and NUC 14 Pro+. The NUC 14 Pro+ boasts up to an Intel Core Ultra 9, emphasizing performance that surpasses other competitive mini-PCs. Meanwhile, the NUC 14 Pro features up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 and is positioned as an Intel vPro Enterprise-ready device.

The new era of Asus NUCs is ushering in exciting options, equipped with features like the brand-new Neural Processing Unit (NPU). These Asus-based NUCs are poised for the age of AI-based personal computing, offering significant enhancements for AI workloads, including offline (device-based) processing.
