While Rockstar has traditionally supported all console platforms, GTA 6 may see a slight PlayStation bias at least in terms of marketing. According to a recent insider report, Sony and Rockstar Games might be teaming up for a GTA 6 promotional deal.
Sources on X, including @DetectiveSeeds, claim that Sony is set to announce two unconfirmed PlayStation partnerships ahead of its summer event. This has fueled speculation, with @GTAVI_Countdown among those predicting a collaboration between Sony and Rockstar for GTA 6. Notably, this wouldn’t be the first time PlayStation has been linked to GTA 6 marketing.
Will PlayStation Be the First to Unveil GTA 6 Trailer 2?
On September 4, 2024, the same insider reiterated this claim in an X post, stating that Sony is working on a marketing deal for Rockstar’s upcoming game. In the post, he said,
“PlayStation has established a marketing deal with Rockstar for GTA 6. It is NOT a timed release deal, or any exclusivity to it. This will be shown in a future GTA6 trailer.”
Although he concludes his post by saying people don’t have to believe him, it’s no secret that Sony enjoys securing early exclusivity. Earlier this year, a retail store claimed that Sony had shared GTA 6’s release date with them.
However, we debunked that listing within a day, and the store later apologized. With only six months left until GTA 6’s launch, the possibility of a new trailer is high and PlayStation may be looking to secure the first reveal.
A marketing partnership between Sony and Rockstar Games would be highly beneficial for both parties. With Sony’s dominant position in the console market and GTA 6 expected to generate billions in initial sales, the collaboration seems like a natural fit.
Their long-standing relationship, dating back to Grand Theft Auto 3, further strengthens the potential for such a deal. However, neither Sony nor Rockstar have officially commented on the reports.
If the deal goes through, PlayStation could be the first to showcase GTA 6 Trailer 2. What are your thoughts on a possible Sony and Rockstar marketing partnership? Share your opinions in the comments below!
