How to Obtain and Utilize the Boost Pack in Starfield

In the vast expanse of Starfield’s universe, the ability to soar freely is a desirable skill, and the boost pack offers precisely that. Similar to the iconic jet packs found in countless sci-fi adventures, Starfield’s boost pack empowers you to float mid-air and execute double jumps, enhancing your exploration of space and planets. However, acquiring and effectively utilizing this valuable item requires some gameplay know-how. In this article, we’ll guide you on how to obtain and make the most of the boost pack in Starfield.

Finding the Boost Pack in Starfield

When you first awaken at the Akila mining station in Starfield, you’ll quickly notice the absence of a boost pack in your inventory. This means you won’t be able to perform mid-air acrobatics right from the start. Your search for a boost pack will be in vain because, initially, you simply don’t possess one. Fortunately, obtaining a boost pack in Starfield is a straightforward process, and there are two primary methods to acquire it.

1. Complete the ‘One Small Step’ Mission:

The most straightforward way to obtain a boost pack in Starfield is by successfully finishing theOne Small Step’ mission. You’ll receive this boost pack as a reward after your initial encounter with Barrett and eliminating a group of Crimson Fleet adversaries. Barrett will direct you to reach New Atlantis for a meeting with Constellation, a community of space explorers.

By following through with the entire mission and connecting with Sarah Bond’s group at The Lodge in New Atlantis, Jameson, you will be presented with a boost pack. This method is the easiest and most efficient way to acquire a boost pack in Starfield, and the game ensures you receive it during the introductory phase.

2. Loot a Boost Pack from a Deceased Crimson Fleet Bandit:

An alternative approach to obtaining a boost pack is through looting, although this method is more time-consuming and less reliable, especially in the early stages of the game. Throughout your Starfield journey, you will encounter the Crimson Fleet’s hostile forces, both at Akila and in outer space. Eliminating these adversaries in Akila allows you to loot their bodies, potentially yielding valuable items, including a boost pack.

Similarly, on the planet Kreet, you’ll face another group of Crimson Fleet bandits whose lifeless bodies can be looted for a boost pack. Keep in mind that loot drops are randomized, so your success in finding a boost pack through this method depends on luck.

Using the Boost Pack in Starfield

Upon acquiring a boost pack in Starfield, you may notice that your character continues to move and jump conventionally. To utilize the boost pack’s capabilities, your character must undergo training. To achieve this, access your skill page, navigate to the tech tree, and select the “Boost Pack Training” perk. This training enables you to use the boost pack at your discretion. Characters with a background in Soldier or Bounty Hunter in Starfield automatically possess this skill.

Boost pack training encompasses four distinct ranks, each offering improved functionality. After acquiring the skill, activate the boost pack and press the spacebar on your keyboard (or the Y button on your controller) while in mid-air. This action will result in higher jumps and, at times, extended mid-air suspension. As you progress in the game, you will encounter various boost packs, each with unique characteristics to enhance your Starfield experience.
