Clove’s gender in Valorant is undisclosed.

In the spirit of inclusivity, Valorant continues its tradition of representing diverse identities. Riot Games recently confirmed the relationship between Killjoy and Raze, marking them as the first queer couple in the game. Following rumors, Riot has indeed introduced a non-binary agent to Valorant, addressing the curiosity surrounding Clove’s gender in the game.

Has Valorant introduced Clove as a non-binary agent?

Confirmed by John Goscicki, Agents Lead at Riot Games, Clove, as evidenced by their abilities list, is Valorant’s inaugural non-binary agent. Goscicki consistently refers to Clove with they/them pronouns in developer Q&A sessions. When questioned about Clove’s gender identity, Goscicki responded:

In crafting an Agent, our goal is to genuinely portray a varied cast of characters that mirrors our worldwide player community. This encompasses more than just geographical and cultural backgrounds—Clove’s gender identity, along with their distinct personality and gameplay style, is an integral aspect that contributes to their identity as a VALORANT Agent.

It’s important to recognize that Valorant agents serve as representations of various people, cultures, and the broader player base. The inclusion of a non-binary agent in the game has the potential to inspire those who previously felt excluded from the Valorant community. Moreover, solidifying Raze and Killjoy with a genuine queer identity and relationship, after two years of subtle buildup through banners, voice lines, and animations, signifies a positive stride forward.

The addition of Clove, the Scottish troublemaker, as a non-binary agent in Valorant will significantly enrich the player base’s dynamics. Not only do their abilities and playstyle contribute to this, but their appearance and voice lines also authentically represent their non-binary identity.

Apex Legends and Overwatch have been vocal about their support for the LGBTQ community, incorporating diverse identities into their character lore through voice lines, comic panels, and teasers both within and outside of the games.

Each legend in Apex Legends proudly embodies their sexuality or gender identity. From Loba to Catalyst, Fuse, and Bloodhound, every character represents a gender identity that players can resonate with, fostering a sense of acceptance and relatability. Providing characters with distinct identities enriches the game, making it more representative and relatable to players.

Will Riot Games follow in Respawn’s footsteps to make Valorant more inclusive of various gender identities? Introducing Clove with their identity marks a significant stride forward.
