15 Exciting Games to Experience at Steam Next Fest

Steam Next Fest has evolved into our preferred seasonal occasion on Valve’s game storefront. This dedicated event has helped gamers discover intriguing games from various studios. And we eagerly look forward to it. For the 2024 Steam Next Fest, we decided to continue our tradition by selecting some of the most intriguing games for the February edition. Whether you’re a fan of city builders or platformers, we’ve highlighted our favorite picks to kickstart the event. So, without further ado, open Steam, and let’s get started!

1. Pacific Drive

Pacific Drive is an upcoming sci-fi adventure game where you navigate a car through the Pacific North exclusion zone. You’ll enhance your vehicle, maintain it, and gather enigmatic anomalies along the way. Your objective? Survive the perils of the zone while unraveling its mysteries.

This title has been at the top of my list of anticipated games for 2024, and the demo has only heightened my excitement. It’s a must-try during this Steam Next Fest. With the launch just a few weeks away, the developers have finally treated us to a fantastic demo of this thrilling car survival game, so don’t miss out!

2. Children of the Sun

Devolver Digital, renowned for publishing unconventional and quirky games, introduces Children of the Sun, a tactical puzzle shooter that perfectly aligns with their distinctive catalog. In this game, players embark on a revenge quest with a young girl facing off against a brutal cult armed with only a single bullet.

The gameplay revolves around controlling this bullet through diverse levels, challenging players to clear them using inventive and creative strategies. With its high replay value, Children of the Sun stands out among the array of exceptional games featured in the Steam Next Fest and is definitely a title not to be overlooked.

3. News Tower

I first encountered News Tower during Steam’s initial Next Fest, but updates on the game were scarce thereafter. However, with the full release just around the corner, a new demo has finally arrived, sparking renewed interest.

News Tower immerses players in a tower-building and management experience, challenging them to operate a newspaper company during the 1930s Depression era. Players must navigate various challenges and ensure the timely delivery of news despite the odds stacked against them.

4. Underspace

Do you remember the Thomas The Tank Engine mod from Skyrim? It sparked a famous meme in video games. Well, it turns out the creator of that mod is now developing a full-fledged video game called Underspace.

Underspace is a sandbox Lovecraftian RPG striving to be the spiritual successor to 2003’s Freelancer. Players embark on a journey through uncharted space, gathering the remains of ancient star creatures and unraveling the mysteries of the cosmos. After trying out the demo, we were instantly hooked. If you’re a fan of space sims, this is definitely a game to check out.

5. Winter Survival

Winter Survival caters to my intense disdain for winter, tapping into that sentiment while incorporating survival elements into the gameplay. As a stranded hiker in Mount Washington State Park, you must battle the wildlife and harsh environment to stay alive.

Hunt, forage, and construct shelters to maintain your sanity amidst the unforgiving conditions. Winter Survival delivers a brutal and realistic survival experience, promising an exhilarating gaming adventure.

6. Mullet Mad Jack

My passion for classic anime led me to give Mullet Mad Jack a try, and I’m thrilled with my decision. This stylish boomer shooter is definitely worth keeping an eye on. Mullet Mad Jack offers a fast-paced FPS experience where time serves as your health.

The more enemies you defeat, the more time you gain, ensuring a rapid and adrenaline-fueled gameplay. With its art style inspired by old-school anime, this game is a treat for fans of 2000s action movies and anime alike. Don’t miss out, download the demo now!

7. SUMMERHOUSE

Summerhouse is a charming building game that aims to capture the essence of cozy summer days. With its relaxing gameplay, it offers an accessible building experience for players of all levels. Construct your own cozy neighborhood in different settings and immerse yourself in the tranquil atmosphere.

Emphasizing coziness, Summerhouse resonates with fans of Boku no Natsuyasumi, myself included. After trying out the demo during Steam Next Fest, I’m eagerly looking forward to this game’s release. It’s definitely one to watch!

8. Backrooms

It appears that developers are continuing to explore the concept of the Backrooms, with many releasing unique experiences in this popular internet genre. In Backrooms, players use a video camera to explore eerie backrooms and environments for anomalies alongside friends.

The game includes proximity voice chat, enhancing the immersive experience of each dynamic level. If you’re seeking a game with an incredibly creepy atmosphere, Backrooms is a standout choice in the Steam Next Fest 2024 lineup.

9. Biomorph

Biomorph is another entry in the ever-evolving genre of Metroidvanias, offering a unique twist. Players navigate an interconnected world, embodying an explorer who transforms into the monsters they defeat.

As is typical in Metroidvanias, you’ll solve puzzles, uncover new areas of the map, and battle enemies. The ultimate objective is to rebuild the city of Brightmoor, using any means necessary to achieve this goal.

10. Lost Twins II

Lost Twins II is a delightful puzzle adventure game that prioritizes coziness. Join Abi and Ben on a charming journey through adorable environments as they make their way back home.

The game offers simple yet engaging handcrafted puzzles suitable for all ages. Playing the demo of Lost Twins II left me hoping for a Lost Twins I, given how enjoyable the experience was.

11. Biogun

Biogun is a game where you play as Bek-01, a vaccine injected into a dog to save it from extinction due to a virus. Navigate through hand-drawn levels, eliminating germs and viruses to boost the dog’s immune system. The concept may be surreal, but it’s a unique and intriguing premise that I’m excited to explore.

12. Corpus Edax

My love for immersive sims always leads me to include at least one in my Steam Next Fest lineup. This year, I’ve chosen Corpus Edax. Set in a retro-futuristic world on the verge of revolution.

The game offers multiple approaches to every situation, with your decisions shaping the outcome. With titles like Gloomwood and Shadows of Doubt promising immersive experiences, Corpus Edax is definitely one to watch.

13. Dread Dawn

Dread Dawn immerses players in an open-world zombie survival experience set within a city under quarantine. As a survivor stranded in the city following a failed evacuation attempt, you must adapt to the hostile environment and endure its harsh conditions. Collaborate with other survivors to craft defenses, gather resources, and navigate the calamity, all while striving to stay alive amidst the chaos.

14. Star Trucker

Star Trucker offers a unique twist on the simulation trucking genre, setting players on a quest to become the top space trucker. In this sci-fi adventure, you’ll haul cargo and trade salvage across the vast expanse of space. Customize your space-wheeler truck and explore a sprawling map filled with various delivery points, all set against the backdrop of the cosmos.

15. Copycat

In “Copycat,” players take on the role of Dawn, a shelter cat who finds a new home but is replaced by a stray copycat. Dawn is forced back to the streets, where she must fend for herself.

The game explores themes of human-pet relationships, rejection, and the importance of home, aiming to tell a heartfelt narrative.
