8 Video Game Remakes that I Can’t Wait to Play

Being a seasoned gamer, I’ve seen various video game remakes. Some were good, some not so much. The news of upcoming remakes for 2024 and beyond has me thrilled.

Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake

I still recall the first time I started playing Max Payne and became immersed in the character’s tragic story. Wearing that worn-out black coat and seeking vengeance for my virtual wife and child had a unique appeal. Max Payne 3 allowed me to conclude this beautiful, heart-wrenching saga, leaving the character behind. However, as we progress through 2024, I believe Remedy made the right decision to bring him back.

The company has confirmed that remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2 are moving into serious development by Q2 2024. I anticipate that the Max Payne remake will be crafted using Remedy’s Northlight Engine, capturing the original essence of the game.

Despite the challenge posed by the passing of Max Payne’s voice actor, James McCaffrey, I urge Remedy to retain the original voice to preserve the remake’s authenticity. However, the wait will be long, as the Max Payne remakes are not expected to be released until 2026 or later.

Splinter Cell Remake

I vividly remember the first time I played Max Payne, getting lost in the character’s tragic narrative. Donning that tattered black coat and seeking vengeance for my virtual family had a distinctive allure. Max Payne 3 provided closure to this poignant saga, allowing the character to fade into the sunset. However, as we move through 2024, I believe Remedy made the right choice to resurrect him.

The company has announced that remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2 are entering serious development by Q2 2024. I expect the Max Payne remake to be developed using Remedy’s Snowdrop Engine, retaining the original game’s essence.

Despite the difficulty posed by the passing of Max Payne’s voice actor, James McCaffrey, I strongly urge Remedy to keep the original voice to maintain the remake’s authenticity. However, it will be a long wait, as the Max Payne remakes are not slated for release until 2026 or later.

Silent Hill 2 Remake

I have faint memories of exploring the town of Silent Hill as James during my PS2 days. Despite the frustrating camera angles, I found myself simultaneously captivated and terrified by the game. Naturally, I felt both excitement and fear upon watching the Silent Hill 2 remake trailer. Thankfully, the remake eliminates the problematic camera and enhances the visual quality.

Although I’m not typically a fan of horror games, I am eagerly anticipating the journey that Silent Hill 2 offers. The available information suggests that the new combat system, combined with the game’s horrors, is visually stunning. The Silent Hill 2 remake promises to fulfill the desire left by the Enhanced Edition back in 2012. This highly anticipated remake is set to release on October 8, 2024, and I can’t wait to dive in!

The Witcher Remake

I distinctly remember the first time I played Max Payne, becoming deeply engrossed in the character’s tragic story. Wearing that worn-out black coat and seeking vengeance for my virtual family had a unique charm. Max Payne 3 brought a fitting conclusion to this emotional saga, letting the character fade into the sunset. However, as 2024 progresses, I think Remedy made the right call to bring him back.

The company has confirmed that remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2 are moving into serious development by Q2 2024. I expect these remakes to be built using Remedy’s Northlight Engine, capturing the original game’s essence.

Metal Gear Solid Remake

Any long-time gamer is familiar with Big Boss and his adventures in Metal Gear Solid. MGS Delta will delve into Big Boss’ origins, tracing his story back to its roots. Konami has promised that the new Metal Gear Solid Delta remake will showcase “cutting-edge graphics and 3D Audio.”

Until Dawn Remake

I’m not typically a fan of cinematic video games. However, I still remember my amazement when Until Dawn was first released for the Sony PS4. Even without owning a console, watching the gameplay videos was almost as enjoyable as playing the game itself. Now, with the confirmation of an Until Dawn Remake featuring numerous upgrades and changes, my excitement has been reignited.

The upcoming Until Dawn Remake is being developed by a different team, bringing several changes, including the new Unreal Engine 5, a brand-new lighting system, and a different background score.

Players can expect heightened horror elements with an increased focus on dark environments. Despite never having played the original Until Dawn, I am eagerly anticipating the remake’s release in Fall 2024.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

The Prince of Persia remake has been eagerly anticipated for a long time. Since its announcement in 2020, the remake has faced numerous setbacks. However, since Ubisoft decided to move the game’s development back to Montreal, there have been positive developments.

Thankfully, after much back and forth, the trailer for the Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake has confirmed that the game is finally set to release in 2026. While the trailer didn’t reveal much, it certainly looks intriguing. I am excited to relive my nostalgia with improved mechanics, more diverse lore, and enhanced graphics.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake

While I am listing this game last, KOTOR stands out as one of the best Star Wars games. Unfortunately, since its teaser in 2021, there has been little news about it. It was only when Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch confirmed to IGN that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is still in development that fans could breathe a sigh of relief.

Star Wars KOTOR is set in ancient times, following a force user caught in the conflict between the Galactic Empire and Darth Malak. While I must admit that I am not a huge Star Wars fan, I am excited about the upgraded lightsaber battles and shooting mechanics that the remake promises.

With so many exciting video game remakes on the horizon, 2024 is shaping up to be an amazing year for gamers! Which video game remake are you most excited for? Let us know in the comments below!
