Among all the fighting games I am anticipating, Riot’s 2XKO stands out as a highly anticipated upcoming release. Drawing inspiration from the popular MOBA League of Legends by Riot Games, this game features beloved characters like Illaoi facing off against other LOL champions in a tag team format. What makes this even more exciting is the fact that nearly any of the 168 champions could potentially be included in the game, adding to the anticipation surrounding the 2XKO roster.
Set to be launched in 2025, the buzz around the game is further fueled by the upcoming EVO Japan event this weekend. Apart from the competitions, I am eagerly awaiting any updates about 2XKO during this fighting game festival. With this in mind, I have compiled a wishlist of the top League of Legends characters that I would love to see in 2XKO.
1. Vi
It is already confirmed that Jinx will be part of 2XKO. Therefore, I believe it is only appropriate for her older sister, Vi, to join the roster. As the enforcer of Piltover, Vi definitely deserves a spot as a playable character. Nothing exemplifies a fighting game more than utilizing massive gauntlets to overpower your adversary.
Her abilities in League of Legends exude strength. The Vault Breaker and Relentless Force could serve as crucial moves for players to chain their combos. The Blast Shield passive and Relentless Force might be translated into her special moves S1 and S2, offering players either a temporary shield of invincibility or a surge of power. I envision Vi as a character who is easy to pick up but difficult to master in the game.
2. Tahm Kench
The water demon of Runeterra is notorious for causing havoc on the battlefield, especially against bottom lane players, and I believe he would be a valuable addition to 2XKO. His unique abilities could establish him as an effective zoner, and his ultimate move would undoubtedly make a striking impression when adapted to the 2XKO game engine.
We have witnessed the formidable presence of characters like Illaoi. Transforming him into a grappler archetype involves enhancing his Tongue Lash and Devour skills. Given his ability to consume opponents from a distance, his special moves S1 and S2 could be centered around this concept. Perhaps a passive ability related to lashing attacks could be introduced, where executing these moves in regular combat would charge a meter, eventually enabling players to unleash their S1 and S2 specials.
3. Leona
Leona, the Solari Warrior, is known for her aggressive support style, utilizing her crowd control abilities to immobilize foes. I believe Riot could tailor her abilities to resemble those of Wagner from Under Night or other shield-based characters in 2XKO.
Her shield could function as a temporary boost based on a meter, enabling her to block specific attacks. Transforming an ability like Zenith Blade into an S1 or S2 super move could allow Leona to swiftly approach her adversaries. Additionally, Solar Flare could serve as another special move, inflicting chip damage and fostering a pressure-oriented gameplay style against opponents.
While adjusting Leona for her support role may be challenging, with the right adjustments, she could shine brightly in the game.
4. Viego
The Ruination’s King, a beloved figure in the League of Legends universe, has even made subtle appearances in games like Valorant. It seems fitting that Viego could make his fighting game debut as a character in 2XKO.
An effective strategy would be to incorporate Viego’s Sovereign’s Domination passive ability. If Viego eliminates an opponent, he could temporarily assume their identity and replicate their moves. Transforming his Blade of the Ruined King move into an S1 or S2 special could empower players to unleash devastating mid-screen attacks with double damage.
Additionally, introducing abilities like Harrowed Path or Heartbreaker could enhance Viego’s arsenal, allowing him to engage in swift attacks and teleport towards enemies to inflict damage.
5. Samira
The one-eyed warrior from Noxus took me by surprise in my initial League of Legends experience. With a combo system reminiscent of games like DMC, she embodies a playstyle akin to Dante and Vergil from Marvel vs. Capcom 3, blending various fighting styles into one cohesive approach.
Her blade whirl could be transformed into a unique special move, enabling her to deflect any incoming projectiles. Additionally, introducing Wild Rush as another special move could allow her to swiftly maneuver around opponents upon landing a hit-confirm, setting the stage for initiating a combo.
6. Warwick
Warwick stands out as a top jungle pick in League of Legends, known for his close-range combat prowess and ability to absorb damage while dealing significant harm. His potential inclusion as a surprise launch character in 2KXO’s roster, especially with his confirmed appearance in Arcane Season 2, is highly anticipated.
Drawing inspiration from Saberwulf in Killer Instinct could complement Warwick’s abilities effectively. Considering Illaoi’s addition, his role could be better understood. Implementing his passive as a unique in-game feature, where his damage increases when his HP drops below 50%, could add depth to his gameplay. This mechanic could introduce a risk-and-reward dynamic, with Warwick also becoming more vulnerable to incoming damage.
Moreover, integrating Primal Howl as one of his two special moves could enhance his gameplay. Upon successful hit confirmation, unleashing the howl to instill fear in the opponent, freezing them in place, could serve as a valuable combo extender, favoring skilled players. Warwick’s potential inclusion in the 2XKO character roster holds promise, and fans eagerly await his addition.
7. Riven
I stand by my initial statement that almost every League of Legends character could seamlessly transition into the 2XKO roster, although some may integrate more naturally than others. For instance, Riven, a formidable wielder of a heavy sword capable of dealing magic damage, could be a prime fit.
Transforming Riven’s three-hit Broken Wing special into her Rekka move could enable players to effortlessly chain together three attacks, setting the stage for elaborate combos. By incorporating the third and final move from Riven’s Broken Wing as an additional input, players could execute intricate and visually stunning sequences.
Exploring unique mechanics for Ki Burst, Riot Games could introduce a feature where players are propelled backward upon contact with the burst of Ki. Moreover, her Valor ability could serve as another special move, empowering her to dash invincibly towards opponents while shielded. Players could strategically target her shield to weaken it, creating a dynamic 50:50 matchup that encourages thoughtful decision-making before engaging in combat.
8. Katarina
We’ve previously glimpsed Katarina’s character concept art during the Project L phase of 2XKO, initially unveiled via Riot Forge. However, her active gameplay remains unseen.
Katarina, known for her agility and assassin skills, possesses the ability to teleport by hurling her blades at opponents upon impact. This feature could be integrated as a unique aspect, with one of her standard moves transforming into a teleportation attack, enabling her to throw her dagger and swiftly close the distance to her adversary.
Likewise, her Preparation skill could serve as a combo-extender, involving the tossing of a dagger into the air to provide a temporary damage boost, facilitating sustained assaults on her foes. Additionally, the Death Lotus might function as her secondary super move, serving as a combo-finisher where a rapid barrage of attacks concludes the sequence with substantial damage output.
9. Udyr
Udyr, a Spirit Walker in League of Legends known for his fighter role, excels at controlling main lanes within the game. With his versatile abilities and ultimate, I envision Udyr seamlessly transitioning into the 2XKO roster, potentially taking on the role of a grappler due to his imposing stature.
Introducing Udyr as a stance-based character akin to Zafina from Tekken could introduce a unique gameplay mechanic. Players could trigger specific inputs to transition between stances, unlocking diverse sets of attacks. For instance, adopting the bear stance could grant access to the Wilding Claw skill as a specialized move.
Likewise, a Ram stance could enable Udyr to utilize the Blazing Stampede skill from League of Legends, allowing him to charge towards opponents mid-screen while shielded by an invincible barrier. Embracing this concept would empower players to fluidly switch between stances at strategic junctures, optimizing combos to outmaneuver and overcome their adversaries.
10. Akali
My final desire is to see the transition of the League of Legends character Akali into 2XKO. Akali, a stealthy ninja capable of surprising and dismantling opponents, embodies the rush-down archetype prevalent in fighting games, making her a fitting addition to the roster.
Given Ahri’s presence in 2XKO, Akali could serve as another high-speed rush-down combatant. Drawing inspiration from Chipp Zanuff in Guilty Gear, she could exhibit ninja-like agility by clinging to stage walls for brief periods, leveraging her Assassin’s Mark ability as a standard toolkit featuring a ranged rope dagger attack.
Furthermore, the smoke bomb could function as an S1 special move, enabling players to launch adversaries, offering a strategic alternative to granting Akali invisibility in a fighting game. The Perfect Execution ultimate might be reimagined as an S2 special, empowering Akali to execute cross-up maneuvers and inflict substantial damage. I eagerly anticipate Akali’s potential inclusion for these compelling reasons.
These are the characters I am eager to witness in 2XKO. With League of Legends boasting a diverse array of champions, the possibilities for 2XKO are boundless. Which fighters do you envision in the forthcoming game? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
