Nothing, the tech company renowned for its transparent gadget designs, has unveiled its latest product: the Phone 2a Special Edition. This new version of Nothing’s affordable Android phone introduces a vibrant twist by merging red, yellow, and blue—colors previously used individually in Nothing products—into a single, striking device.
Adam, Nothing’s Design Director, characterized the Phone 2a Special Edition as a homage to the brand’s core primary colors. He highlighted its unique aesthetic, which draws inspiration from past design influences while offering a fresh perspective on smartphone design.
The design has sparked strong reactions online. In my opinion, the colored accents provide a pleasing contrast to the phone’s transparent back, enhancing its visual appeal. However, opinions on the internet are divided, with some praising the bold new look while others find it jarring or even downright unattractive.
The pattern on the back of the Phone 2a Special Edition has even been compared to a side view of someone on a toilet, highlighting the varied reactions to its design. Tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee (@MKBHD) captured the split opinions in his tweet: “You’re only allowed to love or hate this Nothing Phone 2a special edition design, no in between.”
Availability and Pricing
Aside from the new color scheme, the Phone 2a Special Edition maintains the same specifications as the standard model. The phone boasts a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro chipset, dual 50MP rear cameras (main and ultrawide), a 32MP front-facing camera, and a 5000mAh battery.
The Phone 2a Special Edition comes with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage and is priced at £349 / ₹27,999 INR / €379. Limited quantities are available now through nothing.tech, and a first-come, first-served in-person drop will occur at the Nothing Store in Soho, London, on June 1.
US customers can purchase the standard Nothing Phone 2a for $350 through Nothing’s developer program. However, the Special Edition colorway is currently unavailable for direct purchase. Enthusiasts can register to receive an alert when it becomes available in the US.
The Phone 2a Special Edition has ignited curiosity and debate within the tech community, with opinions divided. Whether it’s a hit or a miss, one thing is clear—it has everyone talking.
