During the ongoing Google I/O 2024 event, a new feature for Gemini was revealed by the search giant. This feature will enable users to create personalized AI chatbots, known as Gemini Gems. Similar to OpenAI’s custom GPTs, Gemini Gems allows users to define the personality and characteristics of their chatbot by providing instructions, and Gemini will then create the chatbot accordingly.
Although the feature is not yet available, Google has announced that it will be coming soon to Gemini. It’s important to note that users will need to be subscribed to Gemini Advanced in order to access this feature. Gemini Gems can be used to create custom AI chatbots for various purposes, including as coding assistants to help with programming tasks.
Moreover, users can also create virtual AI personas of popular characters or even an AI chef for cooking assistance, showcasing the wide range of possibilities with custom AI chatbots. It remains unclear whether Google will allow users to enhance their chatbots by uploading documents, a feature present in OpenAI’s GPTs.
Nevertheless, Google appears to be competing directly with OpenAI and is rivaling them on several fronts. What do you think on this upcoming feature? Let us know in the comments below.
