Xiaomi is reportedly considering a significant shift away from MIUI, with speculation suggesting that the company might forgo MIUI 15 in favor of a new operating system, potentially named MiOS. Here are the details.
RIP MIUI?
Renowned tipster Digital Chat Station has hinted that MIUI might be discontinued, with MIUI 14 possibly being the last version of the interface. If this proves accurate, we might see a new operating system called MiOS this year, replacing MIUI 15.
It’s uncertain whether MiOS will be a completely new operating system or simply a new Android skin. This new system could be used across Xiaomi smartphones, wearables, tablets, and even China-exclusive electric vehicles.
However, XiaomiUI reports a different scenario, indicating that Xiaomi is still testing MIUI 15. This version might be released alongside the upcoming Xiaomi 14 smartphones later this year. Thus, it’s possible that the rumor about MIUI’s discontinuation could be unfounded and Xiaomi might continue with its MIUI skin.
The report does not entirely rule out the possibility of MiOS and suggests that it could be introduced in the future. It’s possible that MiOS might be reserved for users in China, while MIUI could continue as the global interface. This approach would be similar to how OnePlus previously used HydrogenOS for the Chinese market and OxygenOS for other regions, though it now uses ColorOS in China and OxygenOS elsewhere.
Given the conflicting information about Xiaomi’s potential transition from MIUI to MiOS, it’s difficult to determine what will actually happen. For now, it’s best to take these reports with a grain of salt until Xiaomi provides official details. We’ll keep you updated with the latest information as it becomes available.
