The Nothing Phone (2a) Special Edition introduces a vibrant twist to the standard monochromatic design of Nothing Phones. Featuring primary colors like Red, Blue, and Yellow, along with touches of gray for added aesthetics, this edition has sparked mixed opinions on its visual appeal. However, what many might have overlooked is the intriguing secret hidden within its user interface (UI). Let’s delve into what this secret entails and how to uncover it.
Easter Egg on Phone (2a) Special Edition: What Is It?
Drawing inspiration from the Bauhaus movement, known for its modernist approach characterized by sleek outlines, abstract patterns, and a preference for primary hues, the Phone (2a) Special Edition pays homage to this artistic style. The developers at Nothing have incorporated a new covert theme, serving as an Easter egg for users to discover on the Phone (2a) Special Edition.
Upon closer inspection of the screenshots, this theme reveals itself through the use of white, blue, yellow, and gray app icons, a departure from the conventional black and white scheme. However, one color is conspicuously absent – red. To complete the thematic experience, users can customize their home screen with widgets like the recorder or Flashlight toggle, which turns red when activated, adding a finishing touch to the overall aesthetic.
How to Unlock Hidden Theme on Nothing Phone (2a) Special Edition
Inspired by the Bauhaus design, the hidden theme can be activated by adding the “Dessau” location in the world clock widget, named after the Bauhaus campus in Germany. The following is a step-by-step guide to enable it:
1. Long press the home screen and tap the Widgets option.
2. Under Nothing Widgets, go to Clock.
3. Tap and hold the World Clock, then drag it to the home screen.
4. Tap the settings icon within the clock widget.
5. In the World Clock screen, choose Specific city.
6. In the search box at the top, type “Dessau” and select Dessau, Germany from the search results.
7. Once you do this, the Special Edition Color theme will be applied to your device.
This will add the new Colorful theme option, which you can choose from the Customization menu. This hidden feature was uncovered by Nothing Community member RapidZapper in his post about it.
As an Android enthusiast, I love when OEMs hide little Easter eggs for users to discover. OnePlus used to do this with the calculator app, where entering “1+” would display a Never Settle splash screen, or with the Fanatic mode, if you remember that. The OnePlus Nord 2 Pac-Man Edition also included some cool Easter eggs.
The new hidden theme on the Phone (2a) is a nice touch by the company. It not only adds more colors to the otherwise plain UI but also pays homage to the modernist art movement. I do wish the theme extended to quick settings and other toggles throughout the Nothing OS.
