Ubisoft’s response to Call of Duty, XDefiant, has encountered significant delays due to numerous issues faced by the development team. Despite missing several planned release dates, the game is finally set to launch this month, following multiple playtests.
As per the official announcement from X Post (formerly Twitter), XDefiant will debut on May 21, 2024, across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. The launch details, provided by Ubisoft, reveal that the Preseason will kick off immediately post-launch and extend for six weeks.
During the Preseason, players will have access to five factions: Cleaners, Libertad, Echelon, Phantoms, and Unlockable Dedsec. Additionally, the map pool will include ten arena maps and four progression maps, offering five game modes and a selection of twenty-four weapons.
Following the Preseason, XDefiant will transition into a seasonal format. Players can anticipate new content every three months, including weapons, factions, events, and maps. The inaugural season of XDefiant will introduce a new faction codenamed Ruby, along with three weapons, three maps, and a fresh battle pass.
The long-awaited release of XDefiant is a relief for many fans who have been eagerly awaiting its arrival. Initial impressions from last year’s playtests were generally positive, with the game capturing the essence of classic COD titles and boasting smooth movement mechanics. However, concerns and questions lingered within the community, which contributed to the game’s prolonged development process.
Delays stemmed from various challenges, ranging from certification issues on consoles to developmental obstacles. Yet, it appears the development team has overcome these hurdles and is finally prepared to launch the game to the public.
