Intel Core i9-14900KS Leaks; Potential Launch with Higher Clock Speeds & TDP

There’s speculation about the potential launch of another Intel 14th Gen Core i9 desktop processor, featuring the Raptor Lake Refresh architecture. A purported sample of the Intel Core i9-14900KS has surfaced, reportedly spotted via Tencent’s messaging app, QQ.

This leak was brought to light by hardware enthusiast @9550pro, previously known as a Twitter user. However, uncertainties loom regarding the legitimacy of this CPU and whether it will indeed be released. Notably, certain portions of the processor sample, like the QR code and SPEC code, have been obscured, hindering efforts to verify its authenticity.

If following the pattern of prior CPU releases, the Intel 14th Gen i9-14900KS is expected to arrive with an elevated TDP. Presently, the i9-14900K boasts a 125W base TDP, while the KS variant could potentially sport a higher 150W base TDP.

Exploring the Possibility: Will the ‘i9-14900KS’ Launch This Year or Not?

Intel has previously introduced ‘KS‘ variants like the 12th Gen Alder Lake i9-12900KS and the 13th Gen Raptor Lake i9-13900KS. Considering this pattern, there’s speculation that Intel might unveil an i9-14900KS later in 2024, following their trend of launching new ‘KS’ variants for Core i9 processors.

It’s worth noting that historically, KS variants have maintained the same core counts as their non-KS counterparts. This leads to speculation that the i9-14900KS could potentially offer 24 cores and 32 threads, mirroring the configuration of the i9-14900K.

Intel’s Innovation event in late 2023 confirmed the upcoming release of new desktop CPUs featuring the Meteor Lake architecture slated for later in 2024. With this significant architectural evolution on the horizon, Intel is anticipated to rebrand future desktop CPUs with Core Ultra branding.

Such a substantial shift in strategy might influence the potential launch of a 14th Gen Core i9-14900KS. However, if the i9-14900KS is set to debut, expectations lean toward a release around the second half of 2024.

Prior to this leak, another surfaced via the AnandTech Forums, revealing speculative details about the Intel Core i9-14900KS CPU. It appeared in pre-built PCs listed for sale by PC-Online, mentioning a clock speed of 6.20GHz, 200MHz higher than the non-KS variant.

Considering these leaks, Intel’s potential expansion of the desktop processor portfolio in the upcoming year might involve launching the i9-14900KS to augment their 14th Gen lineup. However, there’s also speculation that Intel might opt to forgo the KS variant altogether in favor of introducing new ‘Core Ultra‘ Meteor Lake architecture desktop CPUs.

The prospect of Intel’s Core i9-14900KS has piqued interest. If released, the KS variant, pre-binned with higher-quality silicon, is anticipated to be an exciting CPU, particularly for overclocking enthusiasts.
