Apple Extends Partnership with Qualcomm as 5G Modem Supplier

Despite previous rumors suggesting that Apple would begin using its own 5G chips starting next year, it appears that this will not be the case at present. The reason for this is a recent agreement between Apple and Qualcomm, which cements Qualcomm’s role as a supplier of 5G modem chips for Apple for a minimum of three years. Here are the details.

Apple Chooses Qualcomm’s 5G Chips for Its Devices!

Recent developments confirm that Qualcomm will remain the supplier of Snapdragon 5G Modem‑RF Systems for iPhones set to launch in 2024, 2025, and 2026. Consequently, Apple’s own 5G modems are not expected to debut anytime soon, with the upcoming iPhone 16, iPhone 17, and even iPhone 18 continuing to rely on Qualcomm’s technology.

This extends to the rumored iPhone SE 4, anticipated to launch either next year or in 2025. Initially, there was considerable anticipation for it to feature Apple’s proprietary 5G modem. However, these expectations have been overturned, and the custom 5G baseband chip for the iPhone 16 also appears to be a thing of the past.

These developments come on the heels of Qualcomm’s CEO, Cristiano Amon, alluding to the possibility of severing ties with Apple regarding 5G modems. However, it’s essential to note that such speculations should be taken with caution until confirmed by official announcements.

Apple’s planned 5G chips were expected to be built on a 4nm process and include support for Sub-6GHz bands. However, detailed information about these chips has remained undisclosed, and it appears that this information will remain under wraps until Apple provides concrete plans for its custom 5G chips.

We will continue to keep you informed as we receive more updates on this matter, so please stay tuned for further developments. In the meantime, Apple is set to host its Wonderlust event at 10:30 pm tonight, where they will unveil the highly-anticipated iPhone 15 series and the new Apple Watch Series 9. We will be providing live coverage of the event, so make sure to tune in for all the latest updates on the new iPhones. If you’re wondering how to watch the event, we’ll provide instructions for that as well.
