MediaTek has achieved a significant milestone by unveiling its inaugural 3nm chipset, which is built using TSMC’s cutting-edge process technology. This development represents a major achievement for both MediaTek and TSMC and is expected to deliver substantial benefits compared to chipsets based on TSMC’s N5 process technology. Here are the key details.
MediaTek Unveils 3nm Chipset Development
MediaTek’s newly developed 3nm chipset promises significant enhancements in performance, power efficiency, and yield. According to MediaTek, this 3nm process technology outperforms the N5 process tech with an 18% increase in speed and a remarkable 32% reduction in power consumption.
Additionally, it offers a substantial 60% increase in logic density. However, specific details about the chipset, including its core configuration, clock speeds, GPU, and other specifications, remain undisclosed.
Joe Chen, President of MediaTek, expressed their “commitment to leveraging advanced technology to create cutting-edge products that enhance people’s lives. He also praised TSMC’s consistent and high-quality manufacturing capabilities, which enable MediaTek to showcase its superior chipset designs, providing high-performance and quality solutions to customers in the flagship market.”
MediaTek’s new 3nm chipset will find its way into a range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, and intelligent cars, among others. This rollout is anticipated to occur in the second half of 2024. Notably, this indicates that the upcoming Dimensity chipset won’t be based on the 3nm process. In the tech landscape, it’s also worth noting that Apple is expected to introduce its next-generation M3 chip, utilizing the 3nm process instead of the 5nm process, with a projected release in the coming year. As 2024 approaches, more comprehensive details about MediaTek’s 3nm chipset will become available, so stay tuned for further updates.
