In a surprising development, a post on Reddit yesterday sparked the AI community’s interest in OpenAI’s upcoming GPT-4.5 Turbo model. The company seems to have introduced a random blog post in the GPT-4.5 Turbo model, indexed by Bing and DuckDuckGo. The meta description states that GPT-4.5 Turbo is superior to GPT-4 Turbo in speed, accuracy and scalability.
This raised the curiosity of many users on X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit. I also tried to access the OpenAI blog for the GPT-4.5 Turbo model, but it gave me a 404 error. Currently, the site has been indexed by Bing and DuckDuckGo and does not show up in search engines. That said, I searched last night and Bing showed me a web page actually from the OpenAI Blog website.
Another post on X shows that GPT-4.5 Turbo is mentioned in the website’s source code. Then:
“OpenAI has announced GPT-4.5 Turbo. GPT-4 Turbo is a new model that exceeds GPT-4 Turbo in speed, accuracy, and scalability. See how GPT-4.5 Turbo can generate natural language and code with a 256k context window and a June 2024 knowledge cutoff.”
Interestingly, the captured description indicates that GPT-4.5 Turbo will have a knowledge cutoff extending up to June 2024. There is speculation that this could be a typo, or OpenAI might release the GPT-4.5 Turbo model in the next three to four months, around July. or August. However, it seems that OpenAI will release an interim model before launching the next generation GPT-5 model.
That said, on the plus side, OpenAI is finally expanding the context length window and will support 256K tokens and GPT-4.5 Turbo. With the current GPT-4 Turbo model, you can only generate up to 128K tokens. After the release of the Claude 3 (200K) and Gemini 1.5 Pro (1 million) models, it’s time for OpenAI to double down on expanding its context window.
So, do you think OpenAI will release the GPT-4.5 Turbo model in the next month? Let us know in the comments below.
