Microsoft has introduced a new Canary build update for Windows 11 that grants users greater control over removing pre-installed apps. Previously, when setting up or reinstalling Windows 11, users encountered a lineup of built-in apps like Camera, Cortana, Photos, and more. In a recent insider build, Microsoft has relaxed its restrictions, allowing users to uninstall a wider range of these built-in apps.
Streamlining for a Cleaner Experience
This development is particularly beneficial for those who don’t utilize these pre-installed apps. Often, such apps remain dormant in the background, consuming system resources. For many users, removing these apps means not only tidying up their system but also potentially freeing up storage space.
Although the storage taken up by these apps is usually modest, some users who have limited space on their operating system drive find value in minimizing unnecessary clutter. Eliminating these built-in apps enhances the Windows 11 experience by reducing excess.
Speaking from a personal perspective, I rarely find myself using apps like Cortana, People, Photos, or Remote Desktop. Currently, many users don’t have the option to uninstall these apps in the current version of Windows 11. However, as these changes from the insider preview become part of the stable Windows 11 release, users will gain the freedom to uninstall these system apps.
